Deitra Sawh is a woman of inspiration: an accomplished systems design engineer, captivating presenter and enthusiastic educator.

Deitra’s achievements go far beyond a Bachelors of Applied Science in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo and a Masters of Mathematical Finance from the University of Toronto. She is currently researching artificial intelligence methods for detecting fraud as part of her PhD in Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. As an expert in the financial industry, Deitra believes that anomalies generated by humans do not usually follow a pattern; rather, they evolve from the conditions of the system. Her research principles are certain to revolutionize the way engineers approach data mining.

Her impact on society is not only technical; she also trains undergraduate engineers in sales skills. Her seminar,  the Six Steps to Selling Yourself, has attracted hundreds of participants who have found the Six Steps engaging, easy to remember, and applicable within both professional and personal contexts. Her goal is to teach students early in their careers the art of having structured conversations in order to instill them with the confidence to become effective future leaders.
