Getting over yourself

One of the main reasons people do not like the idea of “sales” or in other words “trying something new” is fear. Fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear, fear, fear. Fear prevents us from doing many things in life. Or it makes an unavoidable event torturous. Is fear real? Fear of what? When you are afraid, do any of these disaster scenarios happen? After years of practice in sales, it comes down to one thing: getting over yourself. Getting “me” out of the way so I can get things done. Here are three ways to do this:
1) Practice. When you see it as “practice” and not “I have to get this job or I’ll die” then it takes the pressure off.
2) Are you going to be worse off than you are now? Likely not. Just a bit of an ego-bruise perhaps.
3) Do it anyway. Stopping and thinking will only energize the anxiety.
There is certainly some nerves still associated with big sales events, but being nervous is also a natural response to a new situation. But that new situation does not have to be ridden with fearsome thoughts that only serve to undermine you.

Start with small opportunities (respond to this message with a comment!), and let me know how you get over yourself!
